1. Faculty history.
In 1920 in the city of Tashkent the Turkestan State University in which structure there was also a medical faculty has been created. In 1931 the medical faculty has been allocated from University in the independent Central Asian medical institute renamed in 1935 in the Tashkent medical institute. As a part of Medical institute four faculties have been organised: treatment-and-prophylactic, motherhood and infancy protection, sanitary-preventive and stomatologic. In 1933 the sanitary-preventive faculty is renamed into sanitary-and-hygienic faculty, and in 1992 – mediсo-preventive.

The medico-preventive faculty of the Tashkent medical Academy has brought the big contribution to development of a medical science and a professional training not only for Uzbekistan, and for other Republics of Central Asia and behind its limits. Pupils of faculty are academician Turakulov J.H., professors Zairov K.S., Smetanin N.N., Kovaleva E.P., Gusev M. I, Izmerov N.F., Ubaydullaev A.H., Chichenin P. I, academician Iskandarov T.I. and many other things successfully working in various directions of a medical science and practice.
The teachers who have worked many years at institute have brought in histories of development of a preventive direction in public health services and a professional training the big contribution: Musabaev I.K., Yunusova H.A., Samsonov P. - The faculty prepares on a specialty – the general doctor the hygienist-epidemiologist.
After the magistracy termination the general doctor the hygienist-epidemiologist can receive a narrow specialty of many profiles: epidemiologists and bacteriologists , virologists and vermin gist , toxicologists, doctors-laboratories, pathologists, court.-medical experts, dieticians, doctors on hygiene of work and hygiene of a food, hygiene of children and teenagers, municipal and radiating hygiene, the organisation of public health services, etc.
- Stages of preparation of experts.
Students of faculty are trained on four blocks of disciplines: humanitarian and social and economic, mathematical and naturally scientific, the general professional and the special subject matters, including 50 subjects, qualifying and educational experts. Duration of training in a bachelor degree at faculty of 6 years. For reception of a narrow speciality students then are trained 2 years in a magistracy.
- Introduction of new pedagogical technologies.
The Faculty of chairs of faculty spends a practical training with application of new pedagogical technologies (interactive methods of training, business games, work in small groups, etc.) which allow to master better both theoretical knowledge, and practical skills on various disciplines.
- Quantity of the experts prepared for last 5 years.
The faculty is one of leaders among 33 similar faculties of the CIS countries. From the date of the basis at faculty it is prepared more than 13 thousand doctors, including in days of independence of Republic Uzbekistan – 2.714 persons. Now at faculty 650 students are trained. For training of students there are modern textbooks, electronic versions of lectures, study-methodical grants, authors of many of them are the faculty.

Now the structure of medico-preventive faculty the TMA includes 11 chairs, School of public health on which highly skilled teachers work. Following chairs concern medico-preventive faculty the TMA:
- Department of histology and medical biology
- Department of microbiology, virology, and immunology
- Department of environmental hygiene
- Department of communal and occupational hygiene
- Department of epidemiology
- Department of pathologic anatomy
- Department of school of public health
Number of profile disciplines concern:
– Microbiology with virology and immunology;
– The general and radiating hygiene;
– Infectious diseases;
– Public health, the organisation and management of public health services;
– Municipal hygiene;
– Hygiene of a food;
– Hygiene of work;
– Hygiene of children and teenagers;
– Epidemiology.
From 11 profile disciplines six are letting out, participating in certification of graduates of sanitary-and-hygienic faculty on Graduation examinations. It: epidemiology, hygiene of work, hygiene of children and teenagers, municipal hygiene, hygiene of a food.
Profile chairs are bases for improvement of professional skill of the faculty of other medical high schools Rof Uz on hygiene and epidemiology .

- Research activity at faculty and involving in it students and magistrates .
Research work on hygienic profile chairs of faculty is spent on two problems: «Working out of hygienic norms and regulations of modern factors of an inhabitancy of the person» (State registration Number № 01070076) and «the Estimation of the importance of factors of ecology of the person at prevalence of separate forms of disease in Republic Uzbekistan» (State registration Number № 01070074) which are included in the plan of scientific researches the ТМА.
Research activity on faculty chairs promotes realisation of regional local programs of strengthening of health and preventive maintenance of diseases of various groups of the population in connection with factors of environment and ability to live conditions at realisation of the state and epidemiological supervision.
A number of profile chairs of faculty are partners of the foreign medical centres and educational institutions in the field of joint hygienic researches and new technologies of manufactures.
In the SSS faculty chairs students as participants of the student’s scientific organisations which heads are teachers of chairs of faculty are involved. Besides, magistrates a medico-preventive direction spend research work which then is made out in a kind magistracy dissertations.
